The SHED project, a sustainable hospitality metaphor!

Welcome to one of the first hospitality vlogging attempts. Well this is not quite vlogging yet but its at least an early attempt towards it...  It took a while to get the inspitration for the intro simply because I wanted all content including music and video (no matter how bad) to be created by myself.

My name is Ioannis ( Dr Ioannis S. Pantelidis for some...) and I live, breath, research, teach and learn hospitality.
This Shed project did not start with hospitality in mind, if anything I wanted something that would keep me away from "work-work" during my free time.  It became a hospitality metaphor towards sustainable development in my mind much later.  Please note that I do not claim to be the most responsible user (far from it, I learn every day) but I try to do my bit. With this project I have reused old pallets, conserved windows and doors and generally all timber and metal inside the shed has been reused from one source or another.  This was my first ever shed project. I have no carpentry or building skills just the will to enjoy creating anything that I feel brings me closer to a deep understanding of what hospitality is all about.  At this point in my life I feel that hospitality is more about Fun and Kindness than any other industry I have come to know.   Now in terms of sustainability....well... I am sure I could do so much more but for my first effort I was happy with the results. As I was finishing this project I could not help but see the parallels between my shed and some hospitality related projects I have worked with in the past which could have been much more responsible with both their design and construction.

I currently work for  The University of Brighton which has been running programmes in Hospitality Management for well over 20 years. Our focus is to equip students with critical thinking skills as well as professional and transferable skills to be in a position to take up senior managerial positions within the Hospitality Sector.
Our National Student Survey results are consistently higher than the sector average and our student satisfaction of our teaching is at exceptionally high levels. We have unique hospitality research projects and our teachers are passionate hospitality people with an industry background.

A specific strength of our undergraduate and postgraduate Hospitality courses is the high level of engagement our students have with all aspects of our industry. This is undertaken through live industry projects, visiting speakers, competitions and industrial placements.  Our academics are leaders in their field and have published extensively in the hospitality areas of human resource, consumer behaviour in hospitality and food and beverage management.  We have strong links with hospitality organisations around the world, sending students for placements to the top hotel and restaurant brands and much more. Our partnership with the Institute of Hospitality, through the educational membership scheme allows our students access to mentorship programs, dedicated hospitality online & offline libraries and discounts for future IoH membership. Our dedicated Careers team offers career advice to all our graduates for life!
