So its 5am and my wife doesn't even know yet... Those that know me will remember that for 20 years I had a goatee and for emotional and cultural reasons I had a more full beard recently, but never in my life did I have a mustache... I mean NEVER! I also never participated in Movember not because I do not think is a great idea but simply because I dislike mustaches with a vengeance!
So why grow the most ridiculous mustache my terrible shaving skills could master? I had enough reading about people who cant swim taking the families across Turkey to Greece to only find themselves in a badly organised situation with little food, volunteers that are exhausted and no real meaningful support from the EU or the Greek Government. I mean these people have made it to TURKEY so its not like its difficult to open borders and add a few ships that in an organised manner can take these people through Europe in an organised and SAFE way.
Still instead of just dreaming a pipe dream I wanted to do more about it, I am a researcher so I have spent hours researching the best (and most value for donations) way you can help if you can not donate your time or send materials. There is this Kiwi on a Greek island and she is doing a great job and I put my trust in her! Her name is Anne Tee, the fact that the money goes through a non Greek bank account means she can access it straight away with no fear of capital controls.
So instead of opening yet another justgiving page or collecting the money buying items and wasting more money on postage, I thought that it would be great if we could simply support Anne. There is an extra benefit you donate in NZ dollars so your donation no matter how small really looks bigger to you so you get a little extra joy :)
Please donate so that I get to keep my crazy looking Mustache for one month, and get ridiculed by colleagues and probably divorced by my good wife (she is a martyr she is).
Most importantly donate because there are children that are cold, mothers that are scared and volunteers that need your positive energy to keep going! WINTER IS COMING!
They need rain ponchos, reflective blankets, and Shoes. I did send a message viaTwitter to Nike to send them some shoes and Just DO IT but they just haven't DONE IT yet, so its all up to us.
