Eye contact? Has technology turned waiters into "Computer says no characters?"

Imagine the Mecca of professional Hospitality...

Yes Switzerland....

Imagine been served by a waiter who is not nasty, yet not kind.
He does not smile and rarely if ever makes eye contact with any customer.
He prefers the company of his handheld when taking orders...

Yes in Switzerland...

Imagine  the horror in the head of a Greek passionate about hospitality...
My heart pushing me to talk to this poor soul...I linger for a minute undecided...
Yet my mind holds me back as I have lost both my German and my French after so many years of not using them, and he doesn't speak English...

Yes I am gutted for failing the guide in me...

Then it strikes me, I am a hospitality technology believer,  user, researcher, writer so is it also my fault? Have I helped create this monster of non-hospitality?

For all our investments in technological solutions new apps , new software and new hardware NOTHING can replace the beauty of a smile and the sharing of ones soul through their eyes.

Yes I gave no tip!
