Its official, the British Summer has gone on holiday and is probably relaxing by some Mediterranean beach.
Here at University of Brighton, Eastbourne campus we are conducting a series of sensory analysis experiments using a parabolic solar cooker so now more than ever we could use a bit of Summery weather!
Having said that the pictures you see are from a partially cloudy day and even then we reached temperatures of over 99 degrees Celsius (under the cooking pot) and we still managed to bake bread!
Most interestingly however is that we were expecting that everyone would prefer the oven baked bread to the solar cooked one... I haven't run the statistics yet but I can tell you there is a good percentage of people who preferred the solar cooked one!
We have planned another experiment for the 6th of July but judging by the weather forecast we may be doing more RAIN COOKING than Solar Cooking, so if you are reading this blogpost wish us luck and say a little prayer so that the Sun is not shy next Friday :)
P.S. I must not forget to say thank you to the Springboard Grants Programme for supporting us for this project, Neil at the solar shop for giving us a great deal for the cooker and Sukrin for donating the bread mix for this stage of the experiment.
