A vision for Hospitality in the UK.

A vision for hospitality in the UK.

Welcome to 2012! For hospitality in the UK this is going to be a symbolic year as the Olympic Games will be an opportunity for this country to showcase more than just the facilities of it’s capital city.  Media management may be the voice of the games but effective hospitality management will be the glue that keeps it all together to ensure that all stakeholders have memorable experiences and that the media voice is a positive one across the world.

And this is the year that everyone involved in a hospitality related sector should take stock of what we have achieved in the past two decades and how to ensure that our fragmented voice is united and carries a stronger and more unified message than ever before.

We have some wonderful organizations  and some great media. Can you imagine half of those organizations coming together to form an alliance that shared a similar vision?  A vision that would enable hospitality to become a huge player in the minds of the people and the politicians alike.  A vision that could break down the barriers of communication within our sectors.  A vision that could enable hospitality as an industry to be regarded with the respect it deserves.

No single organization can do this by itself, but just imagine the possibilities if only but a few joined forces.  We have seen some minor alliances happening over the years but we do need more.  The picture of this blog post is merely a symbolic representation of what I thought could be the beginning of such an alliance.  A hospitality alliance where professional associations are joined by educational organisations as well as the media and professional networking forums.

There has been no better time to witness  the beginnings of such a vision…

Happy 2012, happy Hospitality year!

  1. This message was sent to me from the people in the Hospitality Guild. Seems like there are some good people out there who are thinking along similar lines:

Many businesses from the hospitality sector have been calling for an organisation that brings together employers, associations, training companies and individuals to promote training and help improve the reputation of the sector.

In response to this, People 1st and UKSP.co.uk are asking people who work or want to work in the hospitality industry, to take two minutes of their time and fill out the online survey below.

The results from the survey will help determine what people expect to get out of joining such an organisation. A voucher for £50 is up for grabs for best suggestions in the survey!

The aim of the organisation is to provide a one-stop-shop for students, apprentices, employees, and businesses in the industry – a place where hospitality professionals can call home, where they can network with each other, get mentoring help to choose the right career path, contact potential employers, join a trade body that represents their profession, put their name down on an industry registrar, etc.
