Goodbye Acorn house restaurant, hello Waterhouse…

I was saddened today to find out (the hard way) that Acorn House Restaurant closed.  This was the first brainchild of Arthur Potts  Dawson, see this Ted Talk:

I remember meeting Arthur  early on when he started the Acorn house and long before the Waterhouse was conceived.  It was a refreshing moment and his passion was so obvious I decided to write a case study for our Food and Beverage Management book.

Having moved out of London, I had not visited the restaurant in the past few months and today when I was talking to some of my students about it, I discovered the website was down and upon calling the restaurant number I was advised by a staff at the waterhouse that the Acorn house lease expired this June and it was not renewed…. I guess the Waterhouse is not that far but somehow I had fallen in love with the ideals of Acorn House and its little training room that was planning to train the 'Green' chefs of the future.

At least it is good to know the Waterhouse is around to continue the legacy Arthur started with the Acorn house.  I am still a little sad though that it seems that the consumer of today may not be that ready to support green concepts in a meaningful way.

You can talk green all you like but if you don’t put your money where your mouth is then your Green talk is irrelevant…. Yes I am talking to you elusive Green consumer who talks Green but buys Red.

Goodbye Acorn house you left us without much fanfare because you joined your little brother, the Waterhouse but at least one consumer will surely miss you :(
