Dionysian Scholars Society - a new hospitality society at University of Brighton

A group of hospitality students at the School of Service Management have established the Dionysian Scholars Society. This a student society that focuses on hospitality as a platform for increased learning opportunities through conferences, guest speakers, visits and training.  The society aims to provide opportunities to anyone interested in hospitality. It enables students to be better equipped with the knowledge, skills and networking needed for a career in the hospitality industry.

Dr Paul Frost, Head of the School of Service Management said: “This is a great initiative by our students that reflects the level of commitment and enthusiasm they show for their chosen course. Studying hospitality management at the School of Service Management has always been much more than class participation and the Dionysian Scholars society will add even more activities and further enrich students’ experiences.”

The Dionysian Scholars society recently held its inaugural event at the Culinary Arts Studio.  The President of the Dionysian Scholars, Megan Noble opened the proceedings explaining the importance of creating a framework that offers opportunities for networking and enhanced learning. Deputy Head of the School of Service Management, Dr Steven Goss-Turner expressed his excitement for the creation of the society and the importance of “sharing values and identifying with each other.”

One of the highlights of the event was the presentations given by Bruno Gil and Neil Leo who explained their vision for a graduate scheme between the School of Service Management and Caprice Holdings.

After the event, Bruno Gil said: “This was a great opportunity to meet and present to a group of forward-thinking and passionate soon to be hospitality professionals, flying under the banner of a society with a long and successful future ahead of it.”
Ioannis Pantelidis, mentor of the society said: “It is a real pleasure to work with such passionate hospitality students, I am amazed by the progress the society has achieved in such short time and I wish to thank all the students and colleagues that showed their support.
“I must however point out two students in particular for their work in leading the society, Megan Noble and Colum Kenny who have both been instrumental to the success of the society. The society has an exciting future ahead.

“The Dionysian Scholars would also like to express their thanks to the school for sponsoring this first event and to all the hospitality and tourism lecturers that came to show their support.”
The Dionysian Scholars are looking forward to putting together the programme for the next academic year so that the society can provide opportunities to more students.
