Essence of Hospitality - A great student conference at a great venue.

You know when a day was a great day, when you end up watching the video footage till 2am with a smile on your face…

Well that’s exactly what happened to me after an amazing day at the beautiful venue of Central Hall Westminster packed with talks from amazing industry people including the award winning Hotelier and inspirational Speaker Jonathan Ragget! The talks were only the beginning of it, almost 100 students from six different institutions engaged in a fantastic exercise with student exploring the essence of hospitality, and presenting the outcomes of their collaborative work to an audience of industry professionals and fellow students. We had student delegations from London Metropolitan University, Thames Valley University, Westminster Kingsway, Oxford Brookes and Surrey University as well as a delegation from the Parisian Université de Cergy-Pontoise!

And as if all of this was not enough the event finished with the launching of the Passion4Hospitality debates championship, an initiative that endeavours to bring industry students and academics even closer together, albeit in a competitive setup (see: http://www.instituteofhospitality.org/passion4hospitality )

I must thank the Institute of Hospitality as well as LMBS and Central Hall Westminster for their support of the event. Without their sponsorship this event would never have happened. I must not forget the speakers, academics and industry professionals alike and the committee of the IoH London Branch who supported wholeheartedly this event. Jonathan Ragget of course who even when sick (he was suffering from a bad case of flu),  made it to the event and presenting his wisdom to students who were not only inspired by his thoughts and management approach but also by his commitment to true hospitality.

Last but not least I must thank all the Universities that agreed to send delegations and thank the students that participated.

And as promised to those students and others that may have missed the event, I attach the slides from the presentations, and I hope that soon we shall also have some videos to showcase. (update! Scroll all the way to the end to find the videos)

And although students had limited time and resources (plus we used low tech for their posters to take them out of their comfort of the usual high tech gadgets), students still came up with some amazing results:

  4. I was in the French delegation and it was amazing for us to follow the conferences in English. We learned a lot in English and about the hospitality. I hope the next promotion will follow your next edition.

    Thanks a lot,
